Iza Koczanowska is an artist, researcher, and interior architect based between Amsterdam and Warsaw.
Expanding interior architecture beyond the human, her practice approaches space as a relational environment shaped by human and more-than-human inhabitants, matter, and landscape. Through site-responsive fieldwork and close observation of the mechanisms shaping these environments, alongside material experimentation and sound, she traces unstable territories shaped by resource extraction and mass tourism. Through prototyping and speculative installation-making, she explores how these relations might be renegotiated, bringing different modes of perception into proximity and imagining other ways of inhabiting and relating to place.
She graduated in Intermedia Arts and Interior Architecture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, holds an MA cum laude from MIARD at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, and studied at ENSAPC Paris-Cergy.
She has participated in art residencies at Arcus Project in Japan, Snehta in Athens, and Sesama in Yogyakarta. Among others, her work has been presented at Dutch Design Week, Festival Law of the Desert, the Nieuwe Instituut, CSW Łaźnia in Gdańsk, and in a solo exhibition at Rondo Sztuki in Katowice.
