Iza Koczanowska – artist and researcher – Berlin / Amsterdam

BIO

Iza Koczanowska is an artist, researcher, and exhibition designer with a background in interior architecture, based between Amsterdam and Warsaw.

Her site- and condition-specific practice engages with unstable land dynamics shaped by extraction and mass tourism, as well as sites of regeneration marked by hauntological and nostalgic responses to these asymmetries. Through embodied field research and friction between bodies and space, she enters situated relations with space, where encounters produce photographic, indexical and material traces. These residues inform a sculptural way of building speculative situations that test how bodies, matter and environments could interact.

She graduated in Intermedia Arts and Interior Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and holds an MA cum laude from MIARD at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam.

She has participated in art residencies at M4gestatelier in Amsterdam, Snehta in Athens, and Sesama in Yogyakarta. Among others, her work has been presented at Dutch Design Week, Festival Law of the Desert, the Nieuwe Instituut, CSW Łaźnia in Gdańsk, and in a solo exhibition at Rondo Sztuki in Katowice.
