IZA KOCZANOWSKA
based in ☁️ / Rotterdam / Warsaw
An interdisciplinary artist and set designer whose work combines research with spatial and relational practices.
My background is in interior design, from which I have been moving toward an interdisciplinary practice—developing sculptural forms that incorporate performative, ephemeral elements and interventions as relational installations.
I grew up in a post-communist country, where my interest in sanatoriums and collective social systems first took shape. Over time, these interests evolved to include environmental and bodily extraction, as well as migration politics, which I further encountered while living in various places.
I am particularly intrigued by different forms of tourism and questions related to the instability of narratives in contemporary living conditions—especially concerning marginalized beings—and the dialogues that take place between various bodies, objects, and spaces.
By researching speculative realities and experimenting with site-specific characteristics of places, I often use reduced-scale models that are not replicas, but resist categorization, lingering in a state of interdependence and forming their own relational dynamics in the context of post-human reality.
