Analysis of private interiors and the identities of their inhabitants. The project, developed in consultation with seniors, addresses the issues of local communities and the isolation of elderly individuals left to fend for themselves, often confined to high floors of apartment blocks or tenement houses, with limited or no ability to go outside independently. For many older people, the window or peephole becomes their only form of contact with the outside world—while they themselves often become part of the urban folklore.
The concept is based on the motif of the door peephole as a transitional element between the interior and exterior worlds. It subverts the typical situation by placing the viewer on the outside, offering them a chance to look inward. The seemingly random placement of peepholes reorganizes the way viewers move through the space, creating a kind of choreography that forces unnatural body positions and additional effort, echoing the architectural barriers faced by individuals with reduced mobility.g
